Signs : การอ่านและเขียนป้ายประกาศ

     การอ่านป้ายประกาศถือเป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญ เพราะเราสามารถพบเจอป้ายได้ทุกที่ในชีวิตประจำวันของเรา ซึ่งป้ายประกาศนั้นก็จะมีหลากหลายประเภทด้วยกัน และมีจุดประสงค์ที่แตกต่างกันไป วันนี้  Fine day for English จีงอยากจะมาสอนวิธีการอ่านป้ายประกาศภาษาอังกฤษให้กับผู้อ่านทุกคน ว่าป้ายแบบต่างๆ หรือสัญลักษณ์แบบไหน มีความหมายว่าอย่างไร และจะสอดแทรกวิธีการเขียนอธิบายป้ายภาษาอังกฤษสำหรับคนที่ต้องการติดป้ายให้ชาวต่างชาติได้อ่านกันด้วยนะคะ
 
ก่อนอื่นมาดูประเภทของป้ายประกาศกันค่ะ ป้ายประกาศมีทั้งหมด 5 ประเภท

3. Signs containing warning
4. Signs containing prohibitions
5. Traffic signs

1. Signs giving information ป้ายแจ้งประกาศให้ข้อมูล

ตัวอย่าง Toilet sign

ป้ายลักษณะนี้บอกเราว่า ที่นี่มีห้องน้ำชายและห้องน้ำหญิงให้ใช้บริการ 

ตัวอย่างการเขียน

Toilets for men and women are here.

Toilets for men and women are available.

ตัวอย่าง Exit sign

ป้ายลักษณะนี้บอกเราว่า นี่คือทางออก

ตัวอย่างการเขียน

This sign tells you that this is the way out. 

If you want to leave here, you can go this way.

2. Signs containing requests ป้ายขอร้องให้ปฏิบัติ

ตัวอย่าง Please queue here sign

ป้ายลักษณะนี้ขอให้เรายืนหรือนั่งรอคิวอย่างเป็นระเบียบในบริเวณที่ป้ายชี้ลูกศรไป

ตัวอย่างการเขียน

You are asked to wait here until called forward.

You are asked to keep your distance and queue orderly here.

ตัวอย่าง Quiet please sign

ป้ายลักษณะนี้ขอให้เราเงียบเสียง งดส่งเสียงดังในบริเวณนี้

ตัวอย่างการเขียน

This sign asks you to not making loud noises in this area.

When you enter this room, please be quiet.

 3. Signs containing warning ป้ายคำเตือน

ตัวอย่าง Warning deep water sign

ป้ายลักษณะนี้เตือนให้เราระวังอย่าลงไปในน้ำหรือระมัดระวังในการเล่นน้ำ เพราะน้ำมีความลึก

ตัวอย่างการเขียน
This sign warns you that the water is deep. Children should be supervised at all times.
This sign warns you that the swimming pool is deep. You must be careful.

ตัวอย่าง beware of the dog sign

ป้ายลักษณะนี้เตือนให้เราระวังสุนัขที่อยู่ในบริเวณนี้ อาจเกิดอันตรายจากการถูกสุนัขกัดหรือทำร้ายได้

ตัวอย่างการเขียน 
This sign warns you that there is a dog in this area. You must be careful when walking through.
There is a dangerous dog here. No trespassing. You may get injured.

4. Signs containing prohibitions ป้ายห้ามกระทำ

ตัวอย่าง No smoking sign

ป้ายลักษณะนี้ ห้ามไม่ให้เราสูบบุหรี่ในบริเวณนี้

ตัวอย่างการเขียน
This is a non-smoking area. You cannot smoke when enter this area.
It is against the law to smoke in these premises.

ตัวอย่าง No dog allowed sign

ป้ายลักษณะนี้ ห้ามไม่ให้นำสุนัขเข้ามาในบริเวณนี้

ตัวอย่างการเขียน
Dogs are not allowed. You cannot bring dogs into this area.
Please bring your dog outside.

5. Traffic signs ป้ายจราจร

ตัวอย่าง Stop sign

เครื่องหมายจราจรบอกให้รถหยุด

ตัวอย่างการเขียน
Drivers must stop completely and give way to all traffic in the intersection.

ตัวอย่าง No U Turn sign

เครื่องหมายจราจรห้ามไม่ให้กลับรถ

ตัวอย่างการเขียน 
It is an illegal act to make a U turn at traffic signals or where there is a No U Turn sign.
